Unsure about how to space your deck or stair railing spindles? Use this simple formula to determine the correct spacing between spindles, measured from their centers. Before installation, be sure to check your local building codes for specific spacing requirements.

• Total rail length plus the width of one spindle = “A”
• “A” divided by the size of one space (must be less than 4”) plus the width of one spindle = “B”
• Round “B” up to the next whole number = “C”
• “A” divided by “C” = space from center to center of spindles
